Stevenage Race for Life raises 1000’s for most cancers charity


Greater than 3,500 folks took half within the occasion on Sunday, July 7 at Fairlands Valley Park.

Runners may select from the 3k, 5k or 10k race, alongside the Fairly Muddy impediment course which was launched in Stevenage for the primary time this 12 months.

Amongst these collaborating was Sue Devereux, who has benefitted from Most cancers Analysis UK’s work when she obtained herceptin as a part of her therapy for breast most cancers, which completed 9 months in the past.

Sue stated: “I misplaced my mum to most cancers and I used to be recognized in 2022. I may not have survived this illness 20 years in the past and in one other 20 years it could be preventable.

Ava O’Connor took half as a part of the ‘Stevenage Startlets U9s’ group just some months after shedding her dad, Cam Blake, to testicular most cancers.

June Brown, 86, from Cheshunt, has taken half in each Race for Life Stevenage has ever held.

After being handled for breast most cancers earlier this 12 months, she ran the 3k along with her grandchildren Eden and Callum, who described her as a “fighter”.

Sue Luck wore an image of her companion on her T-shirt, after he handed away from leukaemia 15 months in the past, simply over a decade after shedding her mum in 2011.

She ran along with her daughter and her good friend Emma Goldie and her daughter.

Sue stated: “We’ve taken half in Race for Life to create higher recollections round what’s occurred.

“It’s trigger and must be supported as a result of it’s loopy that one in two of us will get most cancers.”

Emma added: “My dad resides with most cancers. We simply need to attempt to get a treatment for this horrible illness and each penny helps to make a distinction.”

All three races and Fairly Muddy will return to Stevenage on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
