Since medical faculty, Joseph E. Ravenell, MD, affiliate professor within the Departments of Inhabitants Well being and Medication, has been working to handle the well being disparities that have an effect on communities of colour, and specifically, the Black neighborhood.
By partnering with barbershops, Dr. Ravenell engages with Black males to boost consciousness about hypertension (with the Division of Inhabitants Well being) and colorectal most cancers (with the Division of Inhabitants Well being and NYU Langone Well being’s Perlmutter Most cancers Middle). Dr. Ravenell additionally co-directs the Beatrice W. Welters Breast Well being Outreach and Navigation Program, which engages with Black ladies to boost consciousness about breast most cancers.
